Behind the Lens

This started with photography. Long before I shot video I was shooting stills, learning how to read light, frame a subject, and fit everything I wanted into a single image. Moving to film didn't change how I see a shot; it just gave me motion to work with as well.

Most of what I shoot now is on location and run-and-gun, so the good shot usually has to be found rather than set up. The habits from stills are what hold it together: watching the light, staying patient, and knowing the frame is right before I hit record.
